Say hello to Laurie Smith, FNP-C, family nurse practitioner at Carolina Medical Group. She works closely with our patients to help them achieve and maintain optimal health and wellness through evidence-based practices. This collaborative approach empowers patients to take an informed, active role in their own health journey, and she has a special focus on womens health issues. Helping women understand how their bodies are changing during perimenopause and menopause and post menopause is a great source of satisfaction for Laurie, as she is able to combine her extensive research and training, along with her own personal life experience, to offer greater hope and perspective.
Lauries career began as an emergency room nurse in the Cone medical system, and after completing her masters degree in nursing, she worked as a hospitalist nurse practitioner at Cone for a decade, and then in urgent care, and later with Syngenta Health Services. Laurie previously worked with Dr. Merrell both at Cone as well as Syngenta. She is also ANCC board certified (American Nurses Credentialing Center), and is in the process of being certified as a Menopause Society Practitioner.
Laurie was born and raised in Greensboro, North Carolina, where she and her husband still live and are busy raising their two teenage boys. When shes not at one of her sons sporting events, Laurie loves reading, and all sorts of outdoor activities from golf to snow skiing.
Whether at home or at work, vacationing or at the grocery store, Lauries life philosophy boils down to this: Everyone deserves kindness.
